My name is John and I recently broke my back, March 4th.  

It happened on the job, fell down stairs. Rushed to dr office…. Prognosis… t8 compression fractures. And I might have fractured neck. I told everyone I thought I broke my neck. First dr missed it. That’s not important, nor the story.  See after I had my accident I had these headaches at base of my skull inside my head. For like 3 days. It hurt like hell. Then when the headache went away the most amazing thing happened. I saw light… like everywhere. Not like altered vision but a perspective shift.  I look out the window and see a tree. Most see the green leaves…. I see and focus on the light. Every little bit on the leaves to the light on the bark. Then I had the strangest pull, no not pull, need, desire, no, I had to draw what I saw. I’ve never felt this before. In fact I never, ever, ever could draw! 

I’m 43 and when I put pencil to paper, well…. Magic happened.  I drew fine art, not just fine art, but hyper realism. I get done and look at what I created dumbfounded. My heart actually started beating faster, and mind started racing with worries and concerns that I could have some kind of head trauma from the fall that could pose life threatening…whatever. When I’m fact it’s called Savantism. As far as I know there are 33 documented cases of this.

I was lucky to get the latter.  

Galleries are fighting over who gets me. From Beaufort to Hilton head. I actually have a show on Friday downtown Beaufort at coastal Art supply and gallery. They are spotlighting my work with me doing a demonstration draw from 5-8 pm outside on the sidewalk. Directly across from old bull tavern. First off I have no idea the art lingo… the other day someone saw my work and asked what’s my medium? I simply said, I can draw small, medium, and large pictures. To my surprise they said” no, what’s your medium?” I said “ again, I can draw small, medium, and large 

Completely oblivious to my mistake until I watched a YouTube video titled art speak for dummies. Wow, so embarrassing!
